This semesters class was Macro economics. It was a laugh riot... let me tell you. Besides learning about aggregate demand and supply and the Keynesian theory, I also learned that the government doesn't consider me unemployed. You heard me right. Not unemployed. I mean...take into consideration that I am colleting unemployment insurance...so how can they say I'm not unemployed? Because according to them, the unemployed are:
People who are jobless, looking for jobs, and available for work are unemployed.
I can hear you now... "But Vel! That's you!!" You would think..... except you must have sent out a resume or actively sought work in the last 4 weeks. I haven't. What does the government classify me as? A discouraged worker. What?! You've never heard of it?
discouraged workers were not currently looking for work specifically because they believed no jobs were available for them or there were none for which they would qualify
But I made the jump from discouraged to officially unemployed again!! That's right... I have not only filled out applications, I have actually interviewed!! The result of the interview? One job said they had so many applications, they are interviewing and holding them for a job that will become available in..November. I'm back to being discouraged.... and officially unemployed.
